This is only the beginning of her career but Grainne Lyons’ designs have been an adventure in form and material. Her chosen material being wood that exposes a visually striking surface texture in the way she has manipulated it throughout her design work.
Grainne believes that form should go far beyond function in design. To Grainne, design has to master a visual language. The visual language is the basis of design creation. Setting aside the functional aspect, there are principles, rules and concepts in visual organization to be concerned about. Sensitivity to visual relationships is much more important to her as a designer than functionality. Form and composition along with texture are the most essential agents in this visual relationship.
