Toño Guadarrama
Born in México City, graduated as Industrial designer from Universidad Iberoamericana, which gave me in 2005 the ¨Outstanding Student Award¨ in recognition of my academical performance.
I started my professional experience at Esrawe design studio in México City, where I directed product and interior design projects from 2006 to 2008. My portfolio aloud me to win an international contest held by Vitra and the Istituto Europeo di Design who sponsor me to participate in the European design labs Master course. This experience was a creative incubator that gave me a global perspective of what is going on in the world of design. By training with artists and designers I researched many production processes and creative techniques. I participated in workshops and seminars destined to stimulate my creative skills, providing me the necessary tools to develop new ideas.
After this program I was invited to work as product designer and graphic artist for different studios in Spain. One of my greatest achievements during this experience was my collaboration as designer in a serial design products for kids released in Europe.
Eager to acquire more culture and design, in 2010 I got a fellowship from the Japanese agency JICA and traveled to Japan to develop the project "Tradition and Innovation through Industrial design" at the Faculty of art and craft of Toyama. I researched and compared traditional Japanese craft processes with the newest Japanese manufacture technologies. Living in Japan nurtured me with visual design and craft knowledge as well as new theories and methods essential for making design solutions. But above all, it filled me up with a new perspective of life involving a deeper respect for nature and human beings, as well as a stronger working responsibility towards a collective benefit.
