During RAFF Design 2011, the city of Bergen, Norway, turns into a gigantic art and design gallery. Fashion, jewelry, furniture, shoes and glasses are grandly displayed in the best shops and restaurant windows in the city center. TheCreator.ME is teaming up with Design Region Bergen and RAFF to bring Wild Bill to life!
“Wild Bill is a playful and functional coat hanger. Mandatory in every modern saloon. Toss your sombrero or Colt over it while you order a refreshing drink at the bar.”
“A quirky, humorous and cartoony interpretation of a coat stand, visually bold but not too loud and at the same time functional and instinctive.”
“A simple idea, a whim, and the desire to make something fun within a traditionally ordinary product segment... it’s an instantly recognizable form with a strong identity behind it.”
“It was very much about working out the right proportions and dimensions from the original concept; a simplified drawing of a cactus. Based on what can be done in terms of bending and shaping the tube in one long (seemingly) coherent line, the challenge was to find the right sizes and curves and make it logic and harmonic.”-- Atle Tveit

“I like the cartoony almost childish appearance it has, while at the same time it’s an instantly recognizable form like a stylized drawing or a pictogram. This indicates that there’s been a process behind it, just like a pictogram or a stylized illustration never is accidental; it’s not just a quick sketch. The original idea always needs work, forming and adjusting to find the right curves and dimensions, removing unnecessary crap and excessive details. And when you reach the point where there’s nothing more to remove, the piece is (visually) much stronger and clearer. It’s instinctive, it simply makes sense and people perceive it as logical. In Wild Bill I feel I succeeded in making it as strong and clear as possible, although that wasn’t the case in the early stages of it. Considering that you never can tell from the first sketch how much compromising you’ll have to do because of the limitations in material and machines, and how the final product will be, I’m quite happy with how this came out.”-- Atle Tveit
“I often work from a minimalistic point of view, trying to strengthen the object through simplicity. I always try to separate the necessary from the unnecessary, and believe that good design should be perceived as logical and natural, and have both aesthetical and functional value. Inspiration can come from anywhere, but I think my brain is set on a modernistic and minimalistic approach to designing and creating.”-- Atle Tveit
Wild Bill coat hanger is designed by Atle Tveit and was first shown at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2007 in Sweden. The prototype has since been shown at various events, among them the 100% Norway exhibition during 100% Design 2008 at Earls Court in London, United Kingdom.
Wild Bill was finally brought to life by TheCreator.ME in 2011 and its limited 1st Edition was presented to buyers for the first time at RAFF Design 2011 in Bergen, Norway.
